Omdesign's Award-Winning Packaging Transposes Art onto Wine Labels

The inspiration for this design came from a painting gifted to Quinta Maria Izabel by a close friend. The painting, which depicts the emblematic estate in the Douro Valley, was transposed onto the wine label as a token of friendship. The name of the wine, Quinta Maria Izabel 1001, signifies the exact number of bottles produced for this special edition.

What sets this design apart is the use of contrast, textures, and reliefs in the painting to highlight the significance of the Douro river. The color scheme is associated with passion, wisdom, magic, and grandeur, reflecting the premium aspect of the wine. The label perfectly replicates the special details of the original painting.

The technical realization of the design involved using a fine paper with three different layers to reproduce the painting on the label. This method allowed for an accurate reflection of the painting's texture, squareness, brightness, and depth. The wine bottle measures 75 cl in height, 30 cm in diameter, and 8.5 cm in diameter.

The packaging design not only serves as a container for the wine but also as an interaction piece. It evokes the magnificence of Douro and the outstanding scenery filled with vineyards and the river that can be seen at Quinta Maria Izabel.

The project, which started in November 2017 in Oporto, Portugal, and finished in March 2018, faced the challenge of framing the painting in the middle of the label without losing the sublime touch of the original piece of art. The result is a breathtaking view of the Douro Valley, immortalized on the label of a very special wine.
